Let Your Representatives Know You Support Immigrants and Refugees
In recent weeks, Secretary Noem has announced the termination of Temporary Protected Status and termination of parole for Haitians, Cubans, Venezuelans, and Nicaraguans. The news has been devastating for a group of Haitians who have settled in Northwest Iowa. They have become important members of our communities through their work, friends, and the churches they attend. Unless the courts intervene, many of them will lose their status on April 24. Reports suggest this could even be expanded to new groups, such as certain Ukrainians with U.S. sponsors or even Afghans brought to the U.S. after the Taliban takeover.
We need to let our members of congress know that Iowans love their immigrant friends and neighbors. We need to let them know that what is happening is not ok. We need to let them know that we want our representatives to defend our immigrant and refugee neighbors by creating pathways for legal status.
If you are from Iowa, please consider signing your name to this letter that will be sent to our Iowa representatives: Rep. Feenstra, Senator Ernst, and Senator Grassley. You can add your information through this form. Your name, title, and city will be included on the letters we send to our representatives. Please share this with others! The more names we are able to put at the bottom of this letter, the louder our message will be.
We are not powerless! We can and must speak up for change!
